A Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education,
Health Studies, or Recreation is required. A Master’s
Degree in either of these disciplines is preferred.
Standard First-Aid training required and additional
Fitness certifications as offered through the Canadian
Society for Exercise Physiology and other accredited
agencies is highly recommended. Demonstrated experience
in managing staff and developing fitness and strength
training programs, in both a team and individual setting
with recreational and high performance athletes. The
incumbent must have strong knowledge of nutritional
concepts regarding general fitness and high performance
sport, leadership development, and conflict management.
An understanding of facilities scheduling, equipment
purchasing, budget management, program evaluation, and
risk management is essential. Excellent interpersonal
and communication skills are a must, as the incumbent
interacts with a variety of internal and external contacts
on a regular basis. This position requires work in non-traditional
hours, often for extended periods of time outside the

Purpose:
Under the general direction of the Director and
Executive Officer the Associate Director is responsible
for the management and delivery of services designed
to enhance and promote Sport & Recreation.
Responsibilities include overseeing the marketing,
sponsorship and business planning function, building
profile and overseeing collateral produced. In
collaboration with the Director of Sport &
Recreation, plan, design, develop, co-ordinate,
execute and evaluate marketing and business strategies
for Sport & Recreation as well as developing
and facilitating sponsorship programs. Revenue
generation is a key objective for the Associate
Director role. The incumbent will be responsible
for directly promoting Sport and Recreation and
its activities to the York community, alumni,
and other institutions; s/he will work with respective
unit personnel to research and develop annual
programs and develop financial plans that increase
and diversify sources of revenues from programs,
facilities, and marketing and fundraising initiatives.
The revenue objective is to be self-sufficient
by the end of the second year and profitable by
the end of the third year. The Associate Director
will be responsible for overseeing the Communications
and Events team, including the creation and implementation
of a comprehensive strategic plan including the
coordination of the servicing of all sponsor agreements
through the execution of all events. With direction
from the Director, Sport & Recreation or the
Executive Officer the Associate Director interacts
with the media and fulfils the role of spokesperson
as required. |

Responsibilities:
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY: Develop appropriate
strategies (short & long term) to suit business
needs and requirements of existing customers and
potential-customers. Establish and build relationships
with key decision-makers internally and externally..
Identify, engage and co-ordinate the necessary
resources to support business needs. Responsible
for implementation of plans and delivery of objectives
and achievement ing targets for new business.
Ensure community awareness of Sport & Recreation
facilities, operations and programs. Represent
Sport & Recreation internally and externally.
MARKETING: Accountable for the overall creation
of a strategic marketing and business plan for
Sport & Recreation. In collaboration with
the communications and events unit develop comprehensive
and intergrated marketing and promotional plans
that promote sport & recreation programs,
services and facilities. Develop marketing and
business strategies to promote and generate more
business for Sport & Recreation to assist
in the creation of a sustainable funding model
for all programs and services. Ensure that marketing
plan is communicated effectively at all levels.
Market Sport & Recreation services and programs
to designated individuals, groups and communities.
Utilize business and marketing philosophies to
help promote team spirit at York and increase
attendance at events. Responsible for preparing
business proposals, newsletters and marketing
material. Liaise with companies to develop promotional
opportunities at events. Represents Sport &
Recreation at media interviews and sporting events
if required.
FUNDRAISING & SPONSORSHIPS: Create and implement
sponsorship plan to raise funds for programs and
services Spear-head and design targeted programs
to generate funds Responsible for meeting mutually
agreed upon sponsorship and funding targets Develop
alumni relationships in cooperation with Director,
Alumni Services and Director, Sport & Recreation.
Source new potential event sponsors, within the
business community Liase with the York Foundation
to create and explore fundraising opportunities
for all departmental awards and scholarships.
Work closely with Campus Services and Business
Operations to explore and develop opportunties
to expand potential donor options and increase
the potential for corporate partnerships.
COMMUNICATIONS & EVENTS: Supervise the overall
strategic direction for the Communications and
Events team. Work closely with promotions and
events staff to service all sponsor and event
agreements. Ensure a coordinated communications
plan for the department that includes a marketing
strategy.
OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES & HEALTH AND SAFETY:
Ensure that operational activities meet relevant
University, OUA and CIS regulations. Evaluate
activities to ensure community being served to
the highest standards Responsible for familiarity
with the OHS Act and Regulations and University
health and safety procedures as they apply.

Education:
University degree in physical education/kinesiology/sport
administration/business management or equivalent.
MBA preferred. |
Experience:
Minimum ten years' progressive experience in Marketing
and Business Development. Experience in an educational
or sporting environment preferred. Significant
experience with business plans and marketing and
promotional strategies. Experience leading a large
sport, recreation, athletic operation is preferred.
Experience managing in a unionized environment.

Proven strategic marketing experience, along with
outstanding planning skills. Ability to provide
effective leadership. Understanding of university
sport and recreational programming; excellent
oral communication skills including the ability
to speak publicly, to deal with the media, and

Coordinator for Kodiaks Athletics. The successful candidate
will work with the Director of Athletics to maximizing
the marketing and promotion of the award winning Kodiaks
Athletics
program. The majority of the responsibilities include
planning and executing all marketing and promotional
activities for Kodiaks Athletics; negotiating and servicing
all marketing agreements with corporate, media and community
partners
and supporters including the sale of all advertising
for Kodiaks Athletics (gymnasium sign boards, calendar
and programs, etc.); assists with the organization and
coordination of all department fundraising initiatives
including the Adopt a Kodiak program and the annual

Qualifications: A two-year post-secondary diploma in

Sport & Recreation management team the Manager,
Campus Recreation will provide leadership, direction,
management, supervision and coordination of the multi-faceted
recreational programs and activities of campus recreation
at York; University including intramurals, sport clubs,
fitness and lifestyle programs, casual recreation and
instructional programming. The incumbent is responsible
for overseeing and developing new programming at the
Tait McKenzie Centre, Canlan Ice Sports, Tennis Canada,
Tennis Courts, Stadium and outdoor playing fields, and
at decentralized locations across campus (e.g. Schulich
School of Business, Osgoode Hall Law School, Bennett
Centre for Student Services, etc.). This position will
conduct a wide variety of organizational studies, investigations,
and user surveys to ensure that recreational programming
meets the needs of users both within and outside the
York community. The incumbent is responsible for long
and short term planning and directs modifications to
programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate; and
works in conjunction with Sport & Recreation management
team to educate the community of recreation service
needs and programs. The position will coordinate all
campus recreation activities and programs both at the
Tait McKenzie Center and other decentralized locations,
within other departments, divisions, outside agencies/communities
and the general public; and to provide highly responsible
staff to operationalize all aspects of recreational
programming. Providing leadership in the promotion of
campus recreation programs and activities to internal
and external communities is integral to this position.
This role is responsible for staff supervision within
the Campus Recreation unit.
Education:
University degree in kinesiology or Physical Education,
or Recreational Management or related field. CPR and
First aid is required.
Experience:
3-5 years experience in recreational sports administration
at a post - secondary institution or comparable environment
(university environment preferred). Managerial experience
preferred, including responsibility for program design,
delivery and evaluation, and staff management/coordination.
Superior communication skills combined with proven leadership
ability and exceptional problem solving skills is a
must.
