MONTREAL - Lindsay Carson (Cambridge, Ont.) made her individual seasonal debut a spectacular one as she led the University of Guelph women's track and field team to their third consecutive McGill Team Challenge title. Carson won both the 1000 and 1500 meter races, recording the fastest time in the nation for each distance, while in the process automatically qualifying for the CIS Championships in both events. Carson's efforts helped the Gryphons to victory over the Western Mustangs in the largest university track meet in Canada, with 19 schools and over 550 athletes participating. The Gryphon Men were unable to match the women as they fell short in their attempt to three-peat narrowly falling to team champions York and runner-up Sherbrooke. Carson's two wins were among six for the Gryphons as teammate Shaneista Haye (Brampton, Ont.) captured the women's high jump, while on the men's side Allan Brett won the men's 3000 meters, with teammates Guyson Kuruneri (Guelph, Ont.) and Tim Hendry (Parry Sound, Ont.) winning the long jump and shot put respectively. In addition to Carson, Brett was also a double medalist bringing home a bronze in the 1500 meters to go with his 3000 win, while Hendry added a silver in the weight throw to his shot gold. In all the Gryphons brought home 17 medals in all, the six individual gold as well as four silvers and seven bronze. - Source Chris Moulton - Michelle Pino Media Relations & Communications Officer University of Guelph, Department of Athletics Guelph Gr
