Track Vees off to fast start in season opener
TORONTO - The Laurentian women's indoor track squad traveled to Toronto this past weekend to compete at the Nike Open. The meet was the seasons first and were held at the University of Toronto Indoor Track Facility and.
The top time of the weekend for the squad came from third year SPED student Maggie Robins (Port Perry, Ont.) who ran a 3:43:13 in the women's 1000-metre event. Her time was good enough to put her in sixth placing overall for the event. Becky Van Zeyl (Shelburne, Ont.) also posted a solid weekend with two top-20 finishes in the 60 and 300-metre events. In the women's 1500-metre event, Stephanie Flieler (Trenton, Ont.) paced the Vees crossing the line in a time of 5:21:03. Directly behind her were Robins in 5:21:68 and Hilary Kilbreath (Stirling, Ont.) in 5:30:21.
Next up for the running Vees is a weekend competition at Lake State University on Saturday.
