THUNDER BAY, Ont. - Lakehead University Athletics and Marostica Motors are very proud to announce the inaugural Thunderwolves Subaru Indoor Triathlon Series. This series involves two separate indoor triathlons that will take place at the Lakehead Fieldhouse and Hangar beginning in February of 2008. The Subaru Indoor Triathlons offer the community the opportunity to get out during the cold winter months and participate in exciting and challenging events as well as benefiting our athletes at Lakehead University. Marostica Motors owner Ron Marostica said his company is proud to be part of this new initiative. "We at Marostica Motors are very happy to be involved with the Thunderwolves Subaru Indoor Triathlon series because it is a way for us to promote a healthy lifestyle and an opportunity for local fitness enthusiasts of all levels to compete in both a fun and competitive forum at a great indoor venue like the Hangar." Lakehead Athletic Director Tom Warden said this is a bold new athletics venture for the region.. "Lakehead is proud to be the organizer of the first ever Northern Ontario indoor triathlon series. It's a great sport with a wide appeal and this will be a special series of events. I'd like to thank Marostica motors for their generous contribution in making this event possible." All races will include swimming, cycling, and running portions that will all take place indoors in the C J Sanders Fieldhouse and The Hangar. The swim portion will take place in the Lakehead Swimming pool, the cycling will be done on stationary bikes, and the runs will take place at the indoor track located in the Hangar at Lakehead. Lakehead Track Head Coach Kip Sigsworth said Thunderwolves Track is very excited to be working with Marostica Motors on this new event. "The Lakehead University Indoor Track teams are proud to be hosting this indoor triathlon series. We are looking forward to seeing these races grow over the years and become a traditional mid-winter fitness check for Thunder Bay's multisport athletes. We can't wait to host the community on Feb 10th and March 9th." Jon Balabuck, former Lakehead athletics star and Subaru Triathlon Organizer, said the new event is just what Thunder Bay has been waiting for. "The Subaru indoor triathlon series is exactly what fitness enthusiast of all levels has been waiting for in Thunder Bay. For the first time, we as a city, have a endurance event that caters to all levels of fitness in a safe, controlled, and completely indoor environment. This event is perfect for the beginner and the experienced. Since there are multiple events, it allows individuals to assess their fitness level between the different dates. Being an avid triathlete; I am excited about a new multi-sport event in the city. What makes this event even more special, is that the proceeds help off set costs associated with the Lakehead Cross Country and Track teams; teams I have had the honor to represent in the past, and am still actively involved with." The two event dates are as follows: Sunday February 10th, 2008 Sunday March 9th, 2008 For more information, and to register, go to: www.subaruindoortriathlonseries.com.
